Champion 2024: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard
In 2024, French newcomer Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was crowned Swiss Indoors champion, celebrating the biggest success of his career so far. On his way to the title, Perricard showed exceptional performances and prevailed against notable opponents, including two-time defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime and Holger Rune. Perricard's powerful serves and mental strength made him invincible in this tournament. We congratulate Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on his historic success and on an impressive tournament week in Basel.
Björn Borg makes a small tennis tournament famous
In the 1960s, global tennis was not even a vision in Switzerland. But in 1970, thanks to founder and president Roger Brennwald, the first edition of the forerunner of the Swiss Indoors was held in a temporary air hall and advanced from a small tennis tournament to Switzerland's biggest sporting event. This not least thanks to tennis legend Björn Borg, who took part in 1977 and literally made the tournament «explode».
Roger Federer - from ball boy to Basel champion
The Swiss Indoors have seen quite a few stories. Probably the most famous: Roger Federer, who once started out as a ball boy at the Swiss Indoors Basel, is now the most successful player in the event's history, having won ten titles in his hometown. But of course, Switzerland's leading sporting event boasts an impressive list of former champions, including Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, and Pete Sampras.
Fleurop's commitment - from In-kind sponsorship to Official Supplier
Fleurop likes it sporty and fast. That's why the largest flower delivery network sought contact with the Swiss Indoors early on. Starting in 2015, this was still in the form of small sponsorship in kind. But already in 2019, the opportunity of a larger appearance presented itself. At that time, the «Männerpflanze» brand was relatively new. That's why over 300 plants for men adorned the stadium and created a buzz among tennis fans. In 2020 and 2021, the tournament was canceled due to pandemic. But in 2022, the yellow felt ball flew again. New life was breathed into the partnership between Fleurop and the Swiss Indoors, and Fleurop became Official Supplier. Now the visitors of the tournament could not only admire the beautiful plants for men, but also take a great souvenir photo in front of the huge flower wall.
Ready for a selfie?
Speaking of the flower wall: in 2023 it was almost 9 square meters in size, covered with over 3,000 individual flowers and featured the Swiss Indoors logo. Almost non-stop, the masterpiece made by master florist Marc Müller (The BLOOMERY) and his team was hogged by people taking selfies and sharing them on social media. This will be the case again this year. So, selfies are definitely worth taking!
