Weltklasse Zürich first took place on August 12, 1928, as «Internationales Leichtathletik-Meeting Zürich» (International Athletics Meeting Zurich). The event has been known by its current name since 1959. Until 2009, it was part of the IAAF Golden League, which was later replaced by the Diamond League. Women took part for the first time in 1965. In 2007, the meeting was held in the new Letzigrund athletics stadium and attracted over 25,000 visitors. In 2021, a second day of events was introduced at Sechseläutenplatz as part of the Diamond League finals. Today, Weltklasse Zürich is one of the world's most prestigious athletics events and one of the top events in Switzerland.

After Sechseläutenplatz served as the prominent venue for the 2025 Diamond League Final, the Zurich meeting is returning to its classic setup: on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the main station will be transformed into a spectacular competition arena. Weltklasse Zürich is back at the main station! Experience the women's pole vault up close – this year in the middle of the station – with impressive high jumps and an electrifying atmosphere in the heart of the city.

In the west of Zurich, the Letzigrund Stadium will once again be the center of the action.
