The largest flower heart in Europe and Nina is part of it!

To draw attention to the attractiveness and creativity of the florist profession, the largest flower heart in Europe will be created on the Schilthorn on the eve of Valentine's Day under the aegis of Florist.ch professional association. Nina Wampfler, who is training at Fleurop partner store BlumenGarten Spiez, is taking part. We spoke to her.
Nina, on February 13, you will be part of the group of trainees who will create the «largest flower heart in Europe» on the Schilthorn. How does that feel?
Megacool. I still can't believe I'm going to be there.
How did it come about?
My training company received an email from the professional association Florist.ch. They presented the idea and asked for registrations. My teacher asked me if I was interested and I signed up.

But as I'm in my first year of my apprenticeship and there were certainly a lot of registrations throughout Switzerland, I was very skeptical. So, I'm even more excited that I'm obviously going to be there.
What excites you about this work?
Many things. It's my first major project and one that's a record-breaker. We will also be working at an altitude of 2970 meters. That will be a challenge in many respects.

Not only in terms of planning, but also the weather. Of course, I'm also pleased that I can experience this in my first year of training.
The whole project draws attention to Valentine's Day on February 14. How do you feel about this day?
I think it's a nice idea to give flowers as a token of love or friendship. As I'm only 15, I haven't done that yet.

But my father gives my mother red roses every Valentine's Day - and she gives him a peck. Since 2002.
You are in your first year of training. When did you decide to become a florist?
Even as a small child, I loved flowers and made bouquets from meadow flowers. We put them in water at home, and I was very proud of them. So, the desire to become a florist soon arose. In the eighth grade, this briefly changed to retail sales assistant. But then I did a trial apprenticeship in a flower store and from then on everything was clear.
You've been working in the flower store for a few months now. What do you like best?
I like so many things. For example, the fact that I can surround myself with flowers every day and create the most beautiful works. I particularly enjoy making round bouquets and flower arrangements, but also garnishing individual flowers. I like the customer contact too. That gives me so much.
Is there anything you don't like so much? And how do you deal with the relatively cool temperatures in the store and the sometimes long working days?
Off the top of my head, I can't really think of anything that I dislike. There are warm clothes and good shoes to combat cool temperatures. And I think it's only natural to work longer on flower-giving days like Valentine's Day.
Do you have a favorite flower?
I find it difficult to answer because I like flowers in general. But the roses are my favorite, especially the pink ones.

Thanks for the interview, Nina, and have fun on the Schilthorn.
