There has been a Father's Day in Italy since 1968. The date chosen was March 19, because this day is dedicated to
St. Joseph, patron saint of fathers.
This date was also adopted by Ticino, as well as

In Italy, people also light bonfires and prepare the delicious St. Joseph's doughnuts (Zeppole di San Giuseppe).
According to Roman tradition, St. Joseph had to sell doughnuts to earn money for his
family after fleeing to Egypt with Mary and Jesus.
For this reason, zeppole are still a typical dessert for Father's Day throughout Italy.
